Back in the day, it could take years for new artists to achieve just an ounce of success that emerging artists like elijah woods are seeing today. With so many ways to make and share music, audiences can be reached farther and listeners can be attracted faster. For the Toronto-based singer, songwriter, and producer, the rising popularity has been unprecedented. When he made his debut in 2021, he spent over 35 weeks in the top five on Billboard’s Canadian Emerging Artist chart. From there, he went on to gain over 250 streams for his music, which includes over 4 million streams on Spotify alone every month. His first-ever tour across Canada sold out in the fall of this year, showing that aside from hearing his music, fans are eager to see him in action. It seems like the demand will only continue to strengthen for the talented artist, which is why Elijah is teaming up with MacKenzie Porter for a duet version of the track “last girl” from his recent EP.
In August, Elijah released bright orange everglow, which contained five solid indie pop tracks that helped bring the summer to a cool close. One of these tracks was “last girl,” a slow ballad that focuses on the beauty of falling in love for the very last time. For this new version, Elijah plays up this star-crossed love story by bringing in country pop artist MacKenzie Porter. Together, they retain the basics of the track, but MacKenzie changes up a few lyrics to make it her own. Her sweet vocals are the perfect fit for the song, emphasizing the charm and innocence already at play. Her lyrics also give a more complete picture of the two characters in the story, helping to validate Elijah when he sings, “You’re the last girl I’m bringing home.” You can check it out below.
About the collaboration, Elijah mentions,
“As soon as I heard MacKenzie’s vocals, I knew she would be perfect for ‘last girl.’ It was written with a blend of easy-listening pop and country undertones. The song lends itself perfectly to a duet, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!”
MacKenzie also shares,
“I’m such a fan of Elijah’s music, and when he brought me this song, I knew I had to be a part of it. It’s the perfect mix of honest country lyricism and dreamy pop. I’m so excited to collaborate with another incredible Canadian artist.”
You can listen to “last girl” on platforms like Apple Music, SoundCloud, and Spotify.
