“Come My Way” is Modern Nomad’s latest single on their upcoming album, For The Love Of. The song is easy-going and hopeful, as singer-songwriter Tom McLean expresses ultimately positive feelings towards the future.
The simple track has a dreamy feel, with melodies straight from the 1970s. “Maybe someday I’ll find out / What it is I should do” is how the song begins, as retro keys, drums, and a muted electric guitar accompany the first line. Quickly, the song progresses to include the title, emphasizing the hopeful nature of the ambiguous “it.” The song allows the listener to interpret the positive self-discovery in any way they see fit. The mantra “Could it be my day today?” is punched up after the electric guitar solo that acts as the song’s bridge.
Tom McLean’s inspiration for For The Love Of, pulls from that of Harry Nilsson. “I remember hearing Harry Nilsson’s producer, Richard Perry, say that they set off to make the most ‘Beatle quality’ album they could make at the time and ended up with Nilsson Schmilsson,” McLean says. “I figured ‘That seems like a good idea, why not give that a go’ and did the best I could.” Modern Nomad’s 13-track album will be available to listen to come November 17, 2023.
