Is there ever anything “good” about a “goodbye?” Of course, an unexpected goodbye is rough, as there was no preparation for the parting of ways. Still, an expected goodbye is just as difficult to process, as the preparation is nothing compared to that final moment. So, who decided to mask the pain of a “bye” by throwing a “good” in front of it? I need to know, and so does Thomas Day.
On Thomas’s new single “I Don’t Wanna Leave Just Yet,” we witness how crushing it can be to let go of someone who you just want to keep around forever. Throughout this brooding indie pop ballad, we get an ominous feel from the piano chords and guitar, as if they are building up towards something as epic as a final goodbye. Cutting through this dramatic production, Thomas gives us lines like, “And please forgive me for holding on / I’m trying to take it in before you’re gone” and “And I can’t ask of you to give away the last of you,” the weight of the words holding him down. You can check it in the video below, which was directed and edited by Ash Summerford. Expanding on the concept of the video, Thomas previously explained that each door that is shown represents his memories.
About the single, Thomas shares,
“I wrote this song on a really rainy day in LA with my good friends Madi Yanofsky and Nick Ruth. It’s basically about that feelings of not wanting to say goodbye to somebody that you know you have to and knowing that you’re never going to see that person again.”
Thomas recently announced his first ever headline tour, the ‘Love Me For Another Day’ tour, which will take place October 17-November 15. Performing a solid collection of old hits and recent releases, Thomas will be hitting up cities like Columbus, Philadelphia, and Nashville before wrapping up the tour in San Francisco. You can find tickets here.
And if you’re wondering why it’s called the ‘Love Me For Another Day’ tour, it’s because Thomas is releasing a full-length project of the same name. He specifies that this is not a debut album, but “a collection of songs that I wrote and recorded when I was 18 and 19, trying to figure out the kind of artist I want to be.” The project will arrive October 27 right in the middle of the tour, so anyone going to the shows can brush up on the songs beforehand. You can pre-save it here.
You can listen to “I Don’t Wanna Leave Just Yet” on platforms like SoundCloud, Spotify, and Apple Music.
