“This song is about my experience with panic attacks…but the breezy ‘70s groove may not suggest that!” says Coates.
Reminiscent of an early 2000s John Mayer song, Andersen Coates’ latest single “Anxiety (Assassin)” is sure to leave you feeling like you heard it before. The song features a constant electric guitar riff and a quintessential seventies groove. With a key change into the chorus and a melancholy guitar solo. The song itself is low key, detailing anxiety finding its way into the mind, slowly but surely and absolutely overstaying its welcome. The tempo, the rhythm guitar and call and response towards the end of the song are nods to the true blues sound.
Andersen Coates, a singer-songwriter from Iowa is no stranger to blues, in fact his discography thus far showcases his blend of blues with pop and folk. “Anxiety (Assassin)” is the second single off of his upcoming EP, New Lands and is available here.
