viisi is a genre-fluid artist who sparks inspiration from the hip-hop icons he grew up listening to such as Eminem and Dr. Dre. Mixing in his own indie meets electronic flair, his music is a confluence of sound that seamlessly unravels over atmospheric beats and culturally poignant lyricism. His latest single “hate u” is viisi’s bittersweet and cheeky retaliation track against a fresh breakup. Just like it did for viisi, this song is sure to get you out of the dumps and bring your confidence back in full swing.
“hate u” opens with a diluted acoustic riff under sharp-tinged vocals that ruminate over the tail-end of a fiery relationship. The track later evolves into a percussive cherry bomb teeming with subtle electronics that compliments viisi’s impassioned hip-hop cadence effortlessly.
viisi has been an artist on my radar because of his innate ability to weave sarcasm and wit into tragedy. It’s as if he’s taken everyone’s favorite coping mechanism and made it an intrinsic part of his music. He sings, “I changed/ That’s my fault/ I don’t think ‘bout you no more/ If I’m honest, when I do/ There’s some things I’d change ‘bout you.” viisi is always the first to flip the script and command control over whatever situation he’s up against. He shines on “hate u” with bold authenticity that cuts through a hurricane of emotions with precise candor.
viisi has collaborated with a myriad of artists including Chelsea Collins and Kayla DiVenere. He recently released his explosive single “god damn!” which offered further commentary on the woes of modern courtship. “hate u” is the latest release for viisi.
