JUICYPEAR Release Groove-Inflected Track “Island”

Date:

Imagine if the soulful vibes of Emily King and Pharrell Williams collided head-on with the nostalgic charm of The Cardigans and the electronic magic of Daft Punk. Add a dash of the stylish charisma reminiscent of Justin Timberlake’s “FutureSex/LoveSounds” era and the contemporary pop flair of Dua Lipa, and what you get is the delightful rollercoaster that is JUICYPEAR. This Southern California duo, composed of the talented duo Jacob and Jasmine Mayeda.

The newest single, “Island” is a groove-inflected, almost yacht-rock ballad that takes you on a musical voyage. Collaborating with Haiva Ru, a fellow SoCal indie-pop artist, JUICYPEAR delivers a track that oozes with nostalgia and a sense of relaxation. The song’s easygoing rhythm and captivating melodies make it a perfect addition to your playlist for those moments when you just want to kick back, unwind, and escape to your own mental island paradise. Expressing the idea of a fresh start or new beginning, the track reflects on the possibility of a positive change, symbolized by the metaphor of “clouds before the rain” and the transition from spring to summer and emphasizing the feeling of being an “island” and living life in paradise.

Often, when someone is described as an ‘island,’ there’s a negative connotation attached, suggesting that they choose to be alone, isolated, and perhaps misunderstood. In the context of this song, we mean it in the most positive way possible: as a pursuit of becoming more authentic to ourselves, independent of others’ expectations or desires. We can be islands living in a tranquil oasis, a paradise, no matter the circumstances or situations we find ourselves in. That sense of peace is always accessible to us, and to you. We hope when you listen to this song, you’ll feel it as a sonic tropical getaway.

Additionally, JUICYPEAR’s highly anticipated self-titled debut album, released today through the AESTHETYK label and distributed by The Orchard/Sony Music, consists of nine songs. Previously released tracks, “This Is Love,” a bouncy dreampop gem, provides an instant sing-along moment that’s perfect for those carefree summer drives with the windows down, and “Island.”

“This album is essentially our life journey together up to this point,” Jasmine says. “They touch on the ups and downs of getting married, starting a family and exploring life through the lens of a life partner. These are songs about what true, tender, timeless love feels like and a firsthand account of what it looks like to put in the work to better ourselves for each other and as individuals. These songs have been some of the most beautiful creations we’ve made because they are real and tell our story.”

Stream “Island” and JUICYPEAR’s self titled album on Spotify or Apple Music.
