Nashville-based artist corook is starting their bustling autumn season by unveiling their latest single, “emergency contact”. This release marks the introduction to corook’s upcoming EP, serious person (part 2), the highly anticipated second segment of their serious person project. The EP is scheduled for release on Friday, September 22.
According to corook, “”emergency contact” is the introduction to a new funky character-driven corner of corook,” says corook. “The song itself plays like a conversation between me and my whimsical friends cheering me on to go for the girl of my dreams. it’s about the time in my adulthood that i started prioritizing myself and my happiness. i finally trusted myself to pick a partner that was good to me and for me and thus began my journey to find my emergency contact. it is the first single off of my EP, ‘serious person (part 2),’ which will lean more into the bouncy and energetic side of corook while still covering serious topics.”

serious person (part 2) constitutes the second phase of corook’s two-part serious person project. The initial installment, serious person (part 1), was released in the spring and featured the acclaimed title track, “serious person,” along with the viral sensation, “if i were a fish (ft. olivia barton).” Crafted in response to online negativity and personal vulnerability, “if i were a fish” was composed in a mere ten minutes before gaining immense traction on TikTok, amassing 18.7 million views, 2.9 million likes, and 385.7 thousand shares. In light of the overwhelming social media support, corook and Olivia Barton swiftly recorded a complete version of the song along with an official video. The track achieved a record-breaking streaming debut, surpassing 18.3 million global audio streams. It premiered on BBC Radio 1’s Future Pop and sparked coverage from NPR, Rolling Stone, New York Times, Boston Globe, and more.
