Low Girl reinvents lo-fi with new poppy single, “Pockets”

Date:

Following the release of their five-track EP, Uh Oh the UK-based pop group Low Girl release their latest song “Pockets.” Through spacey-sounding synths and no shortage of twinkle effects, the single embodies the feeling of taking someone with you wherever you go, even if they already left.

In true pop and lo-fi crossover fashion, we hear tempo changes and sound effects, accompanied by lyrics that are grounded and self-aware. Lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sarah Cosgrove sings “I hope that you’re good // I hope that you’re fine // Without me, baby.” Although the chorus asks “Can I take you there?” it is clear that ‘there’ is not specified, leaving this interpretation up to the listener. Low Girl says, “Pockets is about trying to repress something that constantly resurfaces. It’s all about the allure of the ‘what-if’ and it’s a rose-tinted way of viewing these possibilities.”

Low Girl’s aforementioned EP Uh Oh includes the single “Bored,” a BBC 6music favorite. The band is prepping for an upcoming fall tour all across the United Kingdom. To find dates and tickets, click here
