New York-based indie artist Emmrose has just released her new single, “Electric Nights”. Co-written and produced by Brooklyn-based indie artist Richard Orofino, this slow and groovy track will invoke a sense of nostalgia in listeners. Emmrose comments on the idea for “Electric Nights”:
“My own idea for a 1980’s era John Hughes movie inspired the lyrics of the song. A guy has a huge crush on a cheerleader (who was dating the football captain, of course) and he asks her to go to prom with him, and, surprise-surprise; she says no. I wrote the lyrics as if we were watching a slow dance where you didn’t have anyone to dance with, and you were rejected by the person you liked.”
Even if you didn’t experience this particular situation during your younger years, every listener will be able to relate to the feeling of turned down by their love interest. The reverb-heavy instrumentals along with Emmrose’s silky smooth vocal delivery will transport listeners right back to a rainy night in the 80s. You can listen here.
The 19-year-old artist’s first EP was released right before the COVID lockdown of 2020, but that hasn’t stopped her from churning out singles and a soon-to-be-released album. Her new album, Thorns, is due to come out on August 22nd, so be sure to keep your ear out.
