New York based songwriter, Olive Louise, submerges us in an underwater vortex of emotion with her haunting new release “Swallow The Ocean.” Written about Louise’s tendency to self-sabotage at the start of new relationships as a way of protecting herself, “Swallow The Ocean” is poignantly visceral and crushingly relatable at its core.
The single combines a whirlpool of hazy synths and reverberant undercurrents that add contrast to Olive Louise’s crystalline vocal on the surface. “Swallow The Ocean” invokes leftover aftershocks of heartbreak with bittersweet harmonies that glide like ice on a hot day.
Revealing more about her new single, Olive Louise admits, “Almost immediately after getting into a relationship I started to push the person away because I was scared that if they decided to leave me one day, I would essentially be emotionally destroyed and never get over them. Deep down it’s about fear getting the better of me. The odd thing is, that feeling of falling in love, it’s addicting, but when I found myself actually in it, it felt like danger.”
