Tinsley encapsulates a lifetime of hopeless romanticism with new single “Just Three Words”

Date:

There are few experiences in life that are more exciting and simultaneously terrifying than saying “I love you” for the first time.

Indie-pop singer and songwriter Tinsley faces this tumultuous emotional event head-on in her new single, “Just Three Words.” The Seattle-based artist explores elements of early-2000s pop in the track – produced by Timothy Robert Graham.

Some of the embellishments within the arrangement carry an air of Owl City, specifically “Fireflies,” which dominated the radio after its release in 2009. Alternatively, “Just Three Words” could be compared to Ashley Tisdale’s playful and pop-influenced rendition of “Kiss the Girl.” Tinsley’s track can be interpreted as the “all grown up” version of Tisdale’s 2006 Disney Channel hit, yearning for something more intimate and valuable than a simple kiss.

The release of this hopeful single comes in anticipation for her sophomore EP, Love Songs, coming on August 18, 2023. It is the second single off of the EP, and explores the uncertainty, anxiety, and excitement that come with a new relationship.

The style of “Just Three Words” draws many similarities to artists like Soccer Mommy and Snail Mail, with emotionally driven lyrics and a dreamlike essence accompanying the production of the song. That isn’t to confine Tinsley to just one small box, though. Her songwriting repertoire is expanding to include credits in the genres of both pop and country music.

These chameleon qualities are integral to a well-rounded artist, however Tinsley does anything but blend in. And listening to her latest release is almost certain to produce a response of just four words: “I love this song.”
