Alexa Cappelli refrains from moving “Backwards” with Knox on new single

Date:

There are two sides to every breakup. Usually, one half will blame the other, unwilling to accept any personal wrongdoing. In this way, it can be tough to really know what happened, as each side tells a different version of the same story. Who is right? Who is wrong? Does it matter? In the end, it makes the whole breakup process a little backwards, as we hear on Alexa Cappelli’s new single.

Alexa is the first to share her side on “Backwards,” opening the track with, “I’m moving on and you’re moving backwards.” Against the lively acoustic guitar riffs, this makes for a bold statement, especially with Alexa’s impassioned pop vocals. She later continues, “I know you know I know you’re not fine / ‘Cause you told me you were a million times / Twisting my words and blurring the lines again,” wanting this other person to just accept what happened and move on. Meanwhile, Nashville-based singer and songwriter Knox has his own thoughts on what went down. He reveals, “I’m doing better than I have in a while / And you say you’re fine / I know you’re lying / It don’t look like you’re even trying,” thinking that Alexa is the one who needs to get it together. They then join forces to make this a breezy indie pop track with dynamic, expansive choruses and colorful percussion, their voices pairing together just fine. You can check it out below.

About “Backwards,” Alexa shares,

“‘Backwards’ is about that part of a breakup when you realize you have made it through the pain. It’s liberating to be able to look back on old relationships after moving on, regardless of if the other person hasn’t been able to. In the past, people have tried to come back in my life only to tell me they haven’t been able to let go – I never want to hold grudges, and they shouldn’t either. Life is too short to move in any direction but forward.”

You can listen to “Backwards (feat. Knox)” on platforms like Apple Music, SoundCloud, and Spotify.
