Since the release of her 2022 debut album, Oddities & Prodigies, Caroline Romano has been able to keep up with herself, delivering plenty of new singles that expands her reputation and keeps her fans interested. Even before the release of the album, she was dropping song after song, getting her name and her music out there as much as possible. Already this year, she has released “Fighting a War” with Julian Rose, along with “Guts” and “Mississippi Air,” which will be from her upcoming EP – yes, you read that right. Caroline’s first EP, A Brief Epic, will be coming July 28, treating fans to a collection of songs that will surely make their summer worthwhile. To celebrate the news, Caroline is releasing another single from the project.
The EP is set to include a more mature and alt-leaning sound for Caroline, which is prominent on “This House.” The slow-burning track plays out like an acoustic-based ballad, its quiet intensity building into an edgy alt-rock track the more it goes on. With a timbre that is a little sweet and a little bitter, she sings about the complexities of sharing a life with someone and what it means to feel love. We hear, “So I put on my best clothes for you / It’s just what I do / If you stood in my shoes / Would you love you too?” before Caroline concludes, “And it’s not your fault for burning this house / It’s mine for building it up.” You can check it out below.
About “This House,” Caroline reveals,
“‘This House’ is about the self-inflicted bruises that come with trying to make something work that inevitably never will. It’s about so desperately wanting that person to look at you a certain way, but always feeling like they see right through you. It’s painting the walls just to have them draw all over it, and building a house just for them to burn. I guess it’s not really about unrequited love, but about just not having quite enough of it.”
You can listen to “This House” on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
