When it comes to love and complicated relationships, Gwyn Love knows how to spill the tea. The electropop artist has never been shy about their feelings towards someone or all the awkward encounters, as heard on debut album dimr and previous singles “luv 2 the beat,” “pttrn,” and “lil bit.” With the help of Toronto producer and frequent collaborator La+ch, they take these thoughts and experiences and turn them into moody bangers, getting the messages of these songs across in a fresh way. With their latest single “ur gf kisses me,” Gwyn stands up to a friend’s boyfriend, owning everything that follows.
On “ur gf kisses me,” Gwyn creates a dreamy, inviting fantasy world through synth, relaxing percussion, and soft electropop vocals. They take control here, shutting out the guy who is not as great as he thinks. Gwyn sings, “Your girlfriend kisses me when you’re not around” and “You make her cry and I make her smile,” revealing what lingers beneath the surface. You can check it out below.
About “ur gf kisses me,” Gwyn explains,
“I wrote this song with the help of Chad Petree about real life events. I wanted it to sound sort of dreamy because it was this fantasyland where I actually stood up to my friend’s terrible boyfriend and told him off, when in real life I was way too terrified of the repercussions to do that. The creation of this song was so fulfilling as it came out exactly as I imagined it. This is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written to date, and I’m ecstatic to finally be able to share it with the world.”
