Nashville rock band The Wans released the title track of their upcoming LP, Magical Touch, the band’s highly anticipated fourth album due on July 26. The newest single, “Magical Touch,” is a sexy tale of falling under an unavoidable spell, accompanied by a music video reminiscent of the 1998 movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, with just the right dose of sleaze.
“Magical Touch” starts off with a dominant bluesy drum, immediately describing the emotional hold the subject has; while seemingly romantic in nature, the ties with the music video allow the listener to interpret the identity of the “witch.” The track is provocative, but also chaotic, which describes the intensity of any form of infatuation. The vocals convey these feelings with a sense of helplessness, as if the magical touch is impossible to escape.
The song brings a renegade vibe to the forefront, with healthy doses of early blues rock mixed in with 2000’s garage rock. The combination of the subject matter and the sleazy rhythm make for a sensual experience that is also catchy, with an anthemic chorus that stays stuck in your head for hours on end.
