On April 1, 2023 Badflower’s Asking for A Friend tour finished up a sold out show at Nashville, Tennessee’s Brooklyn Bowl music venue. Fans anxiously lined the street and packed the nearly 1,300 capacity venue wall to wall to see Badflower with supporting acts Des Rocs and Blood Red Shoes. One of the most highly anticipated shows of 2023 was amongst us, and fans were beyond ready.
Starting out the night was Brighton, England based band Blood Red Shoes. Formed in 2014 this duo consists of Laura- Mary Carter on bass and Steve Ansell on drums. Fans quickly showed engagement in their seven song set, with some singing the lyrics word for word. Blood Red Shoes played songs “Elijah,” “Cold,” “Red River,” “Murder Me,” and closed out the night with an apparent fan favorite “Morbid Fascination.” As the venue quickly became packed towards the end of their set, Blood Red Shoes thanked everyone for coming to the show, as well as the other bands for having them. Such a unique opener that made the final day of tour one of the best!
Second band of the night was New York based band Des Rocs, formed in 2018 this American rock band has made quite the name for themselves over the last 5 years. Vocalist, Daniel Rocco, provides the crowd with a stage presence like no other, as he dashes back and forth across the stage with endless energy. Rocco’s love for performing is extremely apparent with not only the extreme focus on his craft, but also the smile across his face as he looks into the crowd. As soon as the band entered the stage, screams erupted throughout the venue, and it was game on for Des Rocs. Performing nine songs during their 45 minute set, some off of their most recent album A Real Good Person in a Real Bad Place, they also dropped a “DesFlower” banner and had both Blood Red Shoes and Badflower join them on stage for the final night of tour, it was such a beautiful moment that fans will remember for years to come.
Now I know this was April Fools Day, but this is no joke, it was officially time for what we all had been waiting for, Badflower. Alternative rock band, Badflower formed in 2013 out of Los Angeles, California. This four piece band has quickly taken the music industry by storm with their catchy and relatable lyrics. Vocalist, Josh Katz, focuses a lot of his lyrics based on family, love, and heartache, which has made the band very easy for fans to relate on a personal level. During their 18 song set, Badflower played songs “The Jester,” “F*uck the World,” “Ghost,” “Family,” and closed out the night with “30.” During a quick glance at the crowd, you could see fans singing the lyrics, some emotional, some deep in thought, and others carefree as they head bang. This band truly has a way at pulling at our heartstrings in every way possible, and had the crowd mesmerized . Not only did they have fans in tears, Katz also joked about how the band would be splitting up, how they never got along, and then laughed and said “April Fools.” Although this may have been the final day of tour, Badflower saved the best for last and Nashville can’t wait to experience this again in the near future.
