About eight weeks ago, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter. As we near the end of this frosty window, it seems as if his prediction was quite accurate: green leaves are sprouting from trees, flowers are starting to bloom, and the weather is warming up. We are approaching spring, which means a strong return to activities like gardening or beach-going, less layers of flannel, and easy-going music from artists like KESMAR.
On his latest release “Is It You I Miss,” Australian indie pop artist KESMAR taps into his appreciation for Italian disco and all things vintage. Filled with sunny guitar riffs, uplifting melodies, and a piano groove from a Yamaha CP70 (KESMAR also has a thing for equipment), “Is It You I Miss” takes you back a few decades. With relaxed vocals, KESMAR sings about a rocky relationship, ultimately deciding that he wants and misses his partner. You can check it out below.
About the single, KESMAR explains,
“This was a song that went through so many different versions. I really couldn’t pinpoint what I wanted to achieve. I ended up bringing it back to the absolute basics – drums, bass, electric keyboard, and a guitar. As soon as I took out all the unneeded parts, it fell into place. Working in isolation can drive you mad, but the payoff is equally as nice. Making this record and learning how to make it in the process really pushed me, it pushed me to always do better; not to cut corners; and when recording on an 8-track, it will bluntly reveal a good song or a bad song.”
“Is It You I Miss” is the latest offering from KESMAR’s upcoming debut album, Always Chasing Rainbows, set for release on May 12. Telling us about the project, he shares,
“It’s the most true and honest music that I’ve made because it’s been just me. I wanted to get the best out of me as an artist. Anyone who knows me knows that I’ve wanted to make this sort of music for a long time, and I can’t wait for them to hear it.”
You can listen to “Is It You I Miss” and previous singles like “Is It Me or Is It Love” and “Change My Name” on platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and SoundCloud.
