The Darker Still Tour 2023 made a pit stop at Marathon Music Works in Nashville, Tennessee on February 14, 2023. Headlining was Parkway Drive with supporting acts Memphis May Fire and Currents. Even if you were single on Valentines Day this year, this show was sure to put some love in our hearts.
American metalcore band, Currents, opened the night up with earth shattering vocals. Formed in 2011 out of Fairfield, Connecticut they are well known for their melodic riffs and intense breakdowns. Vocalist, Brian Wille, addressed the crowd immediately and stole the hearts of many fans who up until this day had never heard of this amazing band. During their seven song set they performed popular hits including “Monsters,” “The Death We Seek,” and closed out with song “Vengeance.” The energy Wille displayed was hard to match, he ran from side to side, jumping, screaming, and demanding crowd surfers to float across the crowd. Once their set was finished, fans were in complete awe, shocked at the set we just witnessed, and ready to see the following act.
Second band of the night was the highly anticipated Memphis May Fire, this four piece metalcore band was an immediate fan favorite. As soon as the first song began crowd surfers rushed the barricade, keep security hard at work. Vocalist, Matty Mullins, sang with pure confidence and had a smile on his face while taking in the positive feedback of the crowd. Since being formed in 2006, Memphis May Fire is no stranger to live performances, but they really showed up and showed out for Nashville. Most known for songs “No Ordinary Love,” “The Old Me,” and “Make Believe” they are also well known for their high energy and hard hitting lyrics. During their almost one hour set they performed “Blood and Water,” “Death Inside Vices,” and closed out the night with my personal favorite, “The Sinner.” With their most recent album Remade In Misery released in June 2022, we can only anticipate the best is yet to come from this phenomenal band.
Closing out this fiery tour is Australian metalcore band, Parkway Drive. Formed in Bryon Bay, South Wales the name Parkway Drive came from the street name where their rehearsal space was located. Since being formed in 2003, they have released six studio albums, the most recent being Darker Still, which was released in 2022. Vocalist, Winston Mccall, entered the stage with a glowing stage presence. The passion as he fell to the floor along with his blood curlding screams left us with chills. With musical influences such as Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Bad Religion, Hatebreed, and Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive has really formed a sound of their own. During their ninety minute set they performed popular hits “Glitch,” “Prey,” “and “Bottom Feeder,” following up with a two song encore that included “Wild Eyes,” and “Crushed.” We hate that the show ended, but we are all so thankful we got to spend Valentines Day with out one true love…. Live music.
Unfortunately, the Darker Still Tour has came to an end, but Parkway Drive will be back on the road soon enough, with their next shows being Knotfest AUS and Japan. Click HERE to keep up with upcoming tour dates.
