Eighty Ninety release “2 Carat” from upcoming debut album

Date:

In the years since they released their debut EP, Elizabeth, indie pop group Eighty Ninety have done well in crafting and perfecting their “808s and telecasters” sound. This sound has been heard on fan-favorite hits like “10K Summer Nights,” “Your Favorite Song,” and their sophomore EP, The Night Sky, which came out last summer. Fans eagerly dove into the vulnerable lyrics, warm indie pop melodies, and atmospheric production that came through on the project, building hype for the day when Eighty Ninety finally release their debut album. The wait is not too long now, as we can expect the album later this year. To kick off what will surely be an amazing roll-out, Eighty Ninety are releasing the first single, “2 Carat.”

A gentle blend of synth and percussion, “2 Carat” resurrects lingering feelings for someone long gone. Through the ambient soundscape, lead vocalist Abner James showcases his calm and cool vocals, emphasizing the wistful nature of the lyrics. He sings, “And I still think of you more than you’ll ever know / And I still can’t believe I let me let you.” In the end, he longs to start again with this person, to bring to life the dreams he has of getting back together. You can check it out below.

About “2 Carat” and the upcoming album, Eighty Ninety share,

Our upcoming album is about falling apart and learning how to put yourself back together, and the unexpected moments of joy that come along the way. The first single, ‘2 Carat,’ is about coming to terms with the realization that the right person may have come (and gone) at the wrong time, when you weren’t whole enough to be able to recognize or reciprocate their love. It’s about the struggle to free yourself from cycles of questioning and regret so that you can make space in your life for a fuller self, new joy, and new love.”

You can listen to “2 Carat” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
