Emily James wishes her ex all the best on “For an Evening”

Date:

When indie pop singer-songwriter Emily James releases music, she does so selflessly.  She wants her listeners to identify with what they hear and attach their own meaning to the lyrics, the melodies, even if doing so alters her original purpose or intention of a track.  These songs solely belong to whoever needs them, and that personal connection that someone can have with a song is what makes music so beautiful to Emily.  On her new single, “For an Evening,” Emily transforms another unique experience into a universal moment in time.

While “For an Evening” has all the makings of a sad breakup ballad with the slow tempo and the somber vocals, the track is very kind and hopeful.  Quietly, Emily recounts moments when she knew that a relationship with over, when she accepted that this person was not the one for her.  Still, she gets lost in the better parts of the relationship, singing, “I miss the way / You’d talk to strangers with your arm around me / And I even miss / The unevenness / Of the two of us hand in hand” and “You smiled when you said my name / And from your face / They knew I was the one you wouldn’t shut up about.”  She wishes this person well in the end by mentioning, “Promise me you’ll start again / And even better with someone new,” all hard feelings put aside.  You can check it out in the music video below.
