On December 9, 2022 fans packed the Eastside Bowl venue in Nashville, Tennessee to see thrash metal band Machine Head on their solo tour. Formed in 1991 out of Oakland, California, this four piece band is most known for the songs “Davidian,” “Darkness Within,” and “Descend the Shades of Night.” Selling over 3 million records worldwide, Machine Head has released ten studio albums, the most recent titled Of Kingdom and Crown which released August 2022.
Vocalist, Robb Flynn, demanded the venue’s full attention as he interacted with the crowd and made it known that he wanted the whole floor to be a circle pit. The energy was electric as what seemed like a conveyor belt of crowd surfers glided towards the stage, all while fans moshed their hearts out. During the almost three-hour, twenty-two song set, Machine Head performed many popular hits including “Imperium,” “Old,” and “No Gods No Masters.” The band previously mentioned that some of their musical influences were Metallica, Slayer, and Iron Maiden, and during the Electric Happy Hour tour they honored them by playing the songs “Seek and Destroy,” “South of Heaven,” and “Hallowed Be Thy Name.” Before paying tribute to the bands that inspired them most, they began to joke with the crowd and started playing Taylor Swift’s song, “Shake It Off,” which had fans laughing and dancing. Everyone in the venue seemed to be having an amazing time: head banging, screaming, and singing the lyrics with ease. It’s safe to say many people didn’t have a voice the next morning.
Upon finishing out the night, Machine Head gave out their “Most Valuable Rager” award to a lucky fan, which consisted of a t-shirt, and of course, bragging rights. Although we were graced with their presence for three hours, Nashville fans could not get enough. We cannot wait to have this iconic band back soon.
The Electric Happy Hour Tour began November 3, 2022 in Fresno, California and finishes out December 23, 2022 in Sacramento. They have visited several major cities including St. Louis, Portland, Tampa, and Dallas so far. Lucky for you there is still time to get a chance to see this life changing performance.
