We know that love is a complicated subject for indie pop artist and TikTok sensation Jiubel. Last month, he sang about the way it can drive someone to a breaking point on “Scooby Doo,” incorporating a well-known sound effect from the cartoon into the track. While the single might not have been the most cheerful listen, it resonated with fans who understood the feelings Jiubel was describing. Continuing to explore the shortcomings of love, Jiubel gives us “Orange Trees” from his upcoming EP.
Filled with buoyant melodies and warm synth riffs, “Orange Trees” sets the mood for a pleasant autumn afternoon stroll. Even though we get a comforting vibe from the music, the lyrics depict a scene that is far from cozy. Jiubel describes past relationships that have tragically fizzled, comparing the death of these siutationships to the death of the leaves that come with changing seasons. We hear “‘Cause you only want me now, summer’s gone / All the leaves are dying and you’re dying for attention” and “In the summertime, girl you’re running from me / Then you’re on your knees when you see orange trees,” Jiubel noting this pattern of changing behavior. You can listen to “Orange Trees” below.
“Orange Trees” is the third single after “Scooby Doo” and “Notice Me” to be released from Jiubel’s upcoming debut EP, ren, which is set to be released on November 11. The project is sure to promote his goals as a musician, which includes spreading love “the Jiubel way” or “a way that nobody has ever done before.”
You can listen to “Orange Trees” on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud.
