For UK singer and songwriter Joe Hicks, 2022 has been all about his upcoming album, The Best I Could Do at the Time. In March, he released “Mirror Mirror,” introducing us to some of the heartwarming melodies and thoughtful lyrics that are sure to be heard on the album. A few months later, he dropped “Make It Home” and “One More Step,” kicking off the summer months in style. His latest single, “Out of My Mind,” was an intimate look at heartbreak and fresh starts, doing well to patch up any broken hearts that have emerged from dismal summer romances. Now a couple weeks out from the release of The Best I Could Do at the Time, Joe is easing into smooth waters with his new single, “Sail Away.”
Containing layers of warm guitar and encouraging percussion, “Sail Away” evokes the unconditional spirit of love. Throughout the track, Joe voices his concerns and doubtful moments with lines like “When the waves are tall enough to touch the clouds / I don’t know if I can brave the swell” and “I don’t know why I am color blind / Just a broken bulb that flickers black to white.” Yet, he remembers that his weakest moments do not define him – above all else, love is what truly matters. You can check it out below.
About the single, Joe shares,
“‘Sail Away’ is a reminder to myself that regardless of what happens in my life and career, to love and be loved is the only thing that really matters. As soon as I had the intro chords, I knew that they felt like a beginnings of a ‘track one’, and so that informed how the rest of the song was written and recording was built up. It’s really nice to have the album open with those tension building strings, as it’s a color palette I’ve never used before.”
You can listen to “Sail Away” on platforms like SoundCloud, Apple Music, and Spotify.
Joe’s album, The Best I Could Do at the Time, will be released September 23. You can pre-save it here.
