Weekly Roundup: September 5

Date:

Every week the Melodic staff assembles a Weekly Roundup playlist of songs we can’t stop listening to. This week our staffers enjoyed a variety of pop and rock tunes.
Here are some of the highlights:

1. “Aftershook” – Frankie Cosmos
“The indie-pop group Frankie Cosmos recently released their dreamy 2nd single, ‘Aftershook,’ from their upcoming album, Inner World Peace, out October 21st. Over a psychedelic instrumental, lead vocalist Greta Kline processes the past and grapples ‘with maintaining a balanced ratio of emotional awareness and hopefulness.'”
– Lexi Whitney

2. “Raining in LA” – Franc Moody
“There are times when it feels like we are progressing as a society and times when it feels like we are regressing.  The constant fluctuation is enough to make anyone crazy, as there is no clear way to tell where we are headed.  The electro-funk band Franc Moody have captured this in their music lately, from songs that sound old yet new to lyrics that depict epic highs and steep lows.  On their sophomore album, Into the Ether, the band does their best to find a balance in the consistently inconsistent while making peace with the spaces in between.”
-Christine Sloman

3.  “More Than It Hurts You” – The Front Bottoms
“The Theresa EP serves as the third installment of the band’s popular Grandma EP series and features new recordings of never before released fan-favorite songs as well as the singles ‘More Than It Hurts You’ and ‘Hello World.'”
-Hailey Howard

4. “Insane” – Alison’s Fall
“‘Insane’ is filthy and in your face. The song is an inner dialogue that explores the subject’s own perception of reality and their demons, while also reflecting on the state of the world. The aggressive drums become a form of battle cry that runs through the track, paired perfectly with Pepijn’s strong riffs and Floortje’s sultry vocals, taking the listener hostage and confronting them at the same time.”
-María Mata
