Asbury Park, NJ-based artist joe p returns with a highly anticipated single, “All Day I Dream About,” which was teased over TikTok through a series of videos showcasing its creation and production. The track is already a viral fan favorite and follows the ascent of his breakthrough single, “Off My Mind” off his debut EP Emily Can’t Sing. “All Day I Dream About” is an infectious tune featuring vibrant riffs and captivating lyrics, like:

“This year, I think I’m gonna be / A ghost on Halloween, cut holes so I can see / Bring all my candy home to you so you get a cavity in your tooth / Then my heart won’t be so easy to chew.”

The music video for “All Day I Dream About” was co-written by joe p and frequent collaborator Anthony Yebra and stars joe in several vintage-style film trailers. The video showcases clips of the conceptual trailers along with the behind-the-scenes, making it feel like you’re on set. It’s a creative, well-executed video worth the watch, and the song is sure to become one of your favorites this summer (I know it’s now one of mine!).

Check out the music video and our interview with joe p about its release and his upcoming tour below.

What was the process behind creating “All Day I Dream About” like? What was your favorite part of that process?

I started writing ‘All Day I Dream About’ over a year ago. We posted a demo version called ‘Cavity Song’ on Soundcloud, and people asked us to release it so many times. I kept posting clips of it as I recorded it and re-recorded it and people got more and more impatient that it wasn’t getting a release date. We finally got it done about a month ago and set it up. Sorry for the wait everyone. It’s finally here. And my favorite part was finally putting it out so people aren’t mad at me anymore.

Your new music video features you in different vintage film trailers – how did this inspiration come about?

Tony Yebra plays bass in my band, and he also directs pretty much every video I do. We basically go eat pizza and come up with crazy ideas, then try to see if we can actually pull them off. We’ve done this with every video. If you look at the videos for ‘Off My Mind’, then ‘Crown Vic’, then ‘Going to California’, the concepts have gotten bigger and weirder each time, and we just try to see how big we can go on a super low budget. The ‘All Day I Dream About’ video is the craziest one we’ve done, and we spent a lot of time coming up with fake movies to shoot scenes from. Someday if we can find the time and the money, maybe we will make those into real movies. Miami Bullet, coming soon to a theater near you.

How has the transition been like embarking on your solo project compared to when you were in a band?

It happened by accident. The band I was in broke up when the pandemic hit and we had to stop touring. But it ended up being weirdly liberating for me. I was never going to not make music. That just isn’t an option for me. I had already built my basement into a studio, so I just went down there, and kept writing and recording, and started posting clips of the stuff I was working on, and people seemed to be into it. I just make shit. Now my dog is the only one I bounce ideas off of.

How would you describe your work ethic as an artist?

I have no idea. It’s not a work ethic. I just make stuff. I write music and make videos. That’s just what I do most of the time. I’m either doing one of those things or eating pizza.

Your North American tour with Spacey Jane is coming up this fall – what are you most excited about getting back on the road?

We love to get out and play these songs for people, and we finally have a chance to go to a lot of cities we have never played before, so that will be great. I’ll be at the merch table after we play. Come sign my jeans.

If you could choose anyone to go on tour with, who would it be?

Ashe and Tyler, the Creator.

Lastly, is there anything else you’d like for people to know about you?

I just started drinking coffee.
