Weekly Roundup: August 1

Date:

Every week the Melodic staff assembles a Weekly Roundup playlist of songs we can’t stop listening to. We really loved our new discoveries this week and think you will too!
Here are some of the highlights:

1. “U DON’T KNOW MY NAME” – KID TRAVIS
KID TRAVIS is hands down one of my favorite discoveries this week. He’s his own writer and producer, and it’s clear that he knows exactly what he’s doing. In particular that lovely chord progression in the pre-chorus is attention-getting; there’s something melancholy about it while still maintaining feel-good pop sensibilities. Fans of Lauv, Post Malone, or Justin Bieber will probably feel right at home with this track.

2. “kids” – godz
Marrying music, production, visual art and NFTs, godz is the epitome of a modern dream-pop star. On “kids,” the artist brings to mind bands such as Foster the People and Tame Impala while still maintaining an aspect that is uniquely godz. The verses and choruses almost sound like they could be part of separate songs, but some how they still work together. Listen and see if you can resist grooving to this track.

3.  “Alone With You” – Qwiet Type
Dig 80’s pop/rock vibes or contemporary bands that use those sounds? Then you’re sure to love Quiet Type’s “Alone With You.” A smooth bass line pulls together the simultaneous sounds of plucked and strummed guitars to create a dreamy soundscape that all at once brings to mind artists such as The Police, Empire Of the Sun, and The 1975. Get lost in the ethereal song below.

4. “Sober” – Emiliano Ortiz
Imagine Chris Cornell did an album with The Strokes… you may be thinking “In what world does that work?” Well, Emiliano Ortiz has the answer: this one. Bringing together indie rock instrumentation with a rich vocal for a short, fast, and sweet 2 minutes, this track is the ideal basking-in-the-summer-sun song.
