Growing up, LOKRE always had an eclectic source of inspiration to pull from when creating her own music. Her Indo-Trinidadian and Irish roots, along with her favorite artists like Alicia Keys and Nelly Furtado, gave way to a sound marked by lush R&B, vivid vocals, and intimate lyrics. Sharpening her talent over the years with producers like Yeti Beats (Dojacat, SZA), Curtis Richardson (Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Joss Stone), and Adrian X (Drake, The Weeknd), LOKRE has attracted loads of fans, especially with “Stop Runnin’,” which was featured in the 2018 movie Little Italy. It has been nearly two years since fans have received new music from the talented singer-songwriter, but they will not have to wait much longer. LOKRE’s debut album is set to drop this fall, and before its release, she is giving us its first single.
On “Sun Don’t Set,” we get a sense of LOKRE’s incredible outlook on life and determined spirit. Over a gentle R&B production that is enhanced with warm guitar, LOKRE gives us words that are full of empowerment and encouragement. With her stirring vocals, she sings, “There’s no competition, this isn’t a race / I’m doing my thing and holding my space” and “One person’s victory don’t take nothing away from me,” concluding that she will be alright if “the sun don’t set” for her. Telling us more about “Sun Don’t Set,” LOKRE explains,
“‘Sun Don’t Set’ is an affirmation to press on in the face of self-doubt. The lyrics serve as a much needed reminder, a divine gift even, to encourage me to see the big picture and the temporary nature of pain. No matter how grey the sky, I can trust that the sun is there…even if I can’t see it. That’s the kind of faith I think life demands.”
