When looking back at all that French Original has accomplished so far, it is crazy to imagine him busking at Cannes Film Festival in the hopes of getting noticed. The creative visionary’s pure passion for music has helped him come a long way since then, bringing him to producer and mixer Jimmy Douglass, who was able to mentor French Original and refine his skills. Flawlessly bridging the gap between dance and electro-pop music, French Original has placed himself at the forefront of the global dance music scene, racking in millions of streams with releases like his debut single “History” and the “Pomegranate” remix for deadmau5 and The Neptunes. With a new EP on the way, which is sure to be another great addition to his catalog, French Original is giving us the project’s lead single, “Stay.”
An enticing blend of industrial synth, smooth vocals, and edgy bass work, “Stay” is an electropop jam. Maintaining a steady rhythm, French Original describes an uncomfortable night of conflicting emotions. He opens the track with, “When I’m emotional / I say things I don’t mean,” then dives into examples of acting like he is fine or pretending that he prefers to be alone. In the end, he admits, “I wish I could say that I want you to stay,” letting us know that there is a disconnect between his thoughts and his actions. You can check it out below.
Fans of this new track will not have to wait long before possibly hearing it live, as French Original is set to directly support deadmau5 the night of its release at Britxon Academy. French Original will also be supporting deadmau5 on June 13 at 103 in Tilburg. Tickets can be found here.
French Original’s upcoming EP, Souvenir, is set for a July 8 release.
