Weekly Roundup: May 23

Date:

Every week the Melodic staff assembles a Weekly Roundup playlist of songs we can’t stop listening to. After a week off we’re back and stoked to share some of our favorites with you.
Here are some of the highlights:

1. “Music For a Sushi Restaurant” – Harry Styles
If we’re being honest, this one is mostly featured because who doesn’t want to imagine being on a date with Harry Styles in a sushi restaurant? (But also his entire new album is amazing and multiple people in our staff are addicted, which means you should probably give it a chance too.)

2. “Goosebumps” – Sara Ryan
Those of us who love Bebe Rexha should feel right at home when listening to this one. We also can’t get enough of the way that Ryan sings the word “goOOosebUUmps.” Feel free to stream it below and get it stuck in your head too.

3.  “The Enemy” – Lizzie Esau
Fan of Wolf Alice or Soccer Mommy? Then Lizzie Esau is an artist that you absolutely need to check out. Her latest, “The Enemy,” features a chorus packed with jangly guitars, introspective lyrics, and an infectious sonic combination of hope and angst.

4. “What Do You Want?” – Garvie
The latest from Garvie seemingly challenges parents and mentors, with a chorus that proclaims, “You raised us to ask how/ To stand up, to speak out” before asking, “What do you want?” The rest of the verses follow suit, creating a catchy and defiant message from Gen Z (?) to the rest of the world. However, it could most likely work for any and every generation that has felt judged and belittled by the older population.

5. “for the girls” – Hayley Kiyoko
This song slaps and is catchy AF, but let’s be real: it won a highlight spot as soon as Kiyoko sang the lyric, “Let’s break the tension like a Kit Kat.” Has there ever been a more perfect candy metaphor in a pop song? We think not.
