At last, we’ve got some incredible Arlie news to share — after a year-long rollout with advance singles “karma”, “poppin'” and “crashing down”, a quick DIY tour through the southeast, and the relentless tease of their debut album, they’ve finally revealed that BREAK THE CURSE will drop June 3rd on Atlantic Records. This record is the follow-up to 2018’s wait EP that catapulted the band to national notoriety and tours with COIN, Mt. Joy, and more. The album’s title pays reference to the act of “breaking the cycle of generational trauma”, creating a cerebral and ultimately celebratory world for Arlie’s music to exist within.
Alongside the announcement, the band has unveiled the synth-laden single “sickk”, which is the opener of the album. Paired with a music video directed by Gabe Dreschler, the song harnesses the creative energy that is par for the course in the Arlie experience and creates an indie-pop track with real, dedicated meaning. 80s synths compete with sweeping drums to create a cinematic experience as lead singer Nathaniel Banks details the general reset he went through amidst a mental health crisis in 2019. It’s a stunning monster of a track that might be one of the best things the band has created — listen and watch the music video below.
