Tomberlin announces new album with “happy accident”

Date:

We got the first preview of new music from Sarah Beth Tomberlin last month with “idkwntht“, an airy acoustic number that felt revelatory in its way to mine emotion out of its simplicity. Today, Tomberlin has announced that her new album i don’t know who needs to hear this… will be released on April 29th via Saddle Creek. Alongside the announcement, she’s unveiled “happy accident”, and it’s outstanding. She shared the following about the single:

“‘happy accident’ is a song about relational obscurity. Trying to sort out who you are or who you were to someone. Is this relationship romantic or is it just sex? Do you want to spend time with me or are you just bored? Do I make my own decisions that are good for me or are my decisions predominantly based on what I think you might want or need? I was kind of walking through moments in previous relationships in my life. I wanna know why someone wants to get to know me. Do you want to know me or just your idea of me? Do I want to know you or just my idea of you?”

“happy accident” is a driving piece of indie rock that puts Tomberlin’s outstanding vocals front-and-center along a hypnotic guitar line from Cass McCombs. It feels similarly impressive to last month’s single, and it echoes like a breath of fresh air amongst an indie landscape that’s been stale with singer-songwriter acolytes — this album is going to be very special. Watch the video for “happy accident” below, and preorder the new album here. She also announced a massive EU and US tour that will see her playing solo and with a full band, and you can scroll down to see those dates below.
