It has been about five years to the day since alt-rock band The Wrecks snuck into a studio, watched a few YouTube tutorials, and made their first EP, We Are The Wrecks. The three-track project featured “Turn It Up,” “I Don’t Like You,” and fan-favorite “Favorite Liar,” which became the group’s first Top 40 hit on alternative radio. Fast-forward three years later to 2020 and the band was ready to release their debut album, Infinitely Ordinary, which continued to push them into extraordinary territory. Ever since, The Wrecks have been coming well into their own, releasing their Static EP at the end of 2020, as well as a handful of singles. Ready to start out 2022 with a bang, the band is giving us their new single, “Lone Survivor,” just in time for Singles Awareness Day.
Containing an electric pop beat and an irresistible groove, “Lone Survivor” is the ultimate breakup anthem. We get into some post-relationship feelings, with frontman Nick Anderson singing, “If I knew what I know / I’d never let you get close” and “Love ain’t a game / Darling, where is your shame?” In the end, he concludes, “I’m a reckless lone survivor / I’m electric, I’m on fire,” proving that he will be just fine. You can check it out below.
Telling us more about the track, Nick explained,
“’Lone Survivor’ is a testament to feeling empowered by your independence in the aftermath of a breakup. The energy of this song was swimming through my veins for a few days before writing it. So when the time came for me to get in the booth and write the melody and lyrics, a lot of it came out right away.”
You can listen to “Lone Survivor” on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud.
