Girlpool announce new album Forgiveness with “Lie Love Lullaby”

Date:

Last month, beloved LA duo Girlpool released the single “Faultline”, which showed off a new futuristic pop direction for the duo of Avery Tucker and Harmony Tividad. Today, Girlpool has announced their new album alongside the single “Lie Love Lullaby”, which drifts further away from anything else they’ve ever made for an incredible payoff.

Forgiveness is out on April 29th via ANTI-, and it was created over the past few years as they returned to their hometown of Los Angeles. As on their previous records, Tucker and Tividad wrote their songs separately and then reconvened to find the best way to present these new, challenging tracks to the world. In that, Forgiveness was created, and it reaches far past the sphere of indie-rock or whatever you would have previously categorized as “definitively Girlpool“. The duo shared the following about Forgiveness:

“A lot of my songs on this record are about relationship dynamics where I experienced frustration and pain, and struggling to hold a lot of complexity in my emotions” Avery explains. “Writing Forgiveness helped me fit all those pieces into an acceptance: that my fate pushes me exactly where I need to go.” Harmony feels similarly: “A lot of life feels like unavoidable experiences to me,” she adds. “To me, Forgiveness is about accepting that concept. It’s about forgiving reality for having to be exactly what it is all the time.”

“Lie Love Lullaby” is another step in the direction of what they describe as “weirdo-pop”, but that description feels as if it’s selling this song short. It’s a Tucker-led number that maintains the same unique intimacy that helped listeners fall in love with Girlpool, with a full-fledged embrace of trip-hop and pop music. It’s fucking great, and I’m so excited to hear this new album. Watch the Amalia Irons-directed visual below, and preorder Forgiveness here.
