We are now a few weeks into the new year, which means that some of us are feeling the effects of our resolutions. Some might be totally crushing it, while others might still need a few more weeks or months before stumbling upon any results. In either case, a new year means new opportunities that can lead to better things. For alt-pop duo DBMK, it is important to hold onto the hope, which is what they impart on their new single “Chains.”
On “Chains,” DBMK reflect on the pressures they feel to make each day count. Lead vocalist Kyle Knudsen describes nights where he is “tossing and turning” while the world is “spinning and burning,” desperate to find some peace. By the time we get to the choruses, Kyle takes on a sunnier disposition, realizing that he is in control. Basically, he can choose to hang out with friends who “don’t seem to sweat it” instead of spending this time alone and afraid. You can listen to it below.
When describing the concept of “Chains,” DBMK reveal,
“We’re a generation facing what feels like another apocalypse at the start of every day, and live on the cliche ‘we’re here not for a long time, but a good time.’ But while this may be true, we don’t have to spend that time alone, and we can even dress up and make it a party along the way.”
You can listen to “Chains” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
