Lo Moon announce sophomore album A Modern Life with the mindblowing “Raincoats”

Date:

After giving us a preview with last year’s entrancing single “Dream Never Dies”, Los Angeles group Lo Moon has announced their new album A Modern Life due out February 25th via Strngr Recordings/Thirty Tigers. The record is produced by longtime band collaborator Yves Rothman and former Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla, who helmed the band’s self titled debut in 2018. In a press release, lead singer Matt Lowell shared that “It’s [A Modern Life] about survival, Navigating through all that’s thrown at us. Maintaining who we are and where we want to be. Music itself has been so powerful for us in our own survival, it can change everything in an instant. As a band, we’ve got a lot of reverence for it and strive for it. We don’t take it for granted.” Alongside the announcement, the band has released what might be the first capital-G great song of 2022.

Raincoats” is a monster of a song that’s, quite honestly, left me struggling to describe it. The song begins with Lowell’s smooth and recognizable tenor cutting through a hazy, cascading synth line that’s on par with what we’ve heard from Lo Moon. Midway through the track, though, “Raincoats” transforms into something incredibly special — it quickly becomes a stadium anthem that is new territory for the band. It’s a euphoric rush of electric guitars, noisy synths, and a kind of clatter that’s overwhelmingly exciting. Listen to “Raincoats” below, and preorder A Modern Life here. The band also announced a U.S. tour for 2022 — you can see those dates below.
