Oliver Tree’s “Life Goes On” video and remix bring new dimension for a viral hit

Date:

December wasn’t a time of rest and reflection for Oliver Tree, who released both a “Life Goes On” remix featuring Trippie Redd and Ski Mask with an accompanying video from Cole Bennett.

The song was already incredibly popular with well over 200 million streams on Spotify alone, probably thanks to making the rounds on social media and birthing a few TikTok trends.

The original release of “Life Goes On” is a single from Oliver’s debut album Ugly is Beautiful. The song came with the deluxe version of the album, Ugly is beautiful: Shorter, Thicker, & Uglier, which came out 28th of May 2021.

Now we have the remix which includes features from Trippie Redd and Ski Mask. Although the three artists are very different music styles, it’s somehow not surprising to see them come together. They are all known to be outlandish and have carved out their own lane in their respective ends of the music world, and are ripe for memes. Trippie and Ski Mask add a nice diversity to the song that freshens the overall experience.

The music video was directed by Cole Bennett, known for the ever-popular Lyrical Lemonade. He hardly needs an introduction – he’s worked with so many well-known artists. Some of my favorites have been the video for “Papercuts” by Machine Gun Kelly  and “Whats Poppin” by Jack Harlow

The video is exactly what I would imagine for something co-directed by Bennett and Tree. It features a firearm-fueled stand down that dissolves into a deadly pizza fight. While there’s a threat of violence and some darker themes, it’s morphed into campy comedy. It’s very goofy, yet well produced.

Internet sensations the “Island Boys” (Flyysoulja and Kodiyakredd) and even Diplo make cameos in the video.

Stay tuned for Oliver Tree’s tour, which kicks off in LA on February 19.
