We’re a little less than two months away from the return of Mitski with her album Laurel Hell due out February 4th via Dead Oceans. So far, we’ve heard “Working For the Knife” and the 80s-inspired “The Only Heartbreaker”, and today we’ve heard the third preview from what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest albums of 2022.

“Heat Lightning” leans on the softer side of Mitski’s discography, starting as a slow dirge that eventually expands into a hypnotic, emotionally-charged ballad that wouldn’t sound out of place soundtracking a pivotal movie scene. Watch the animated lyric video directed by Alex Moy below, and preorder Laurel Hell here.
