Regarded as fronting “the new emo revival,” 23-year-old Maggie Lindemann is out here fully establishing herself as a dark creative force. Her SWIXXZ clothing line, podcast, and record label have been taking off, along with her “endlessly addictive” pop punk tracks. These tracks, which include anthems “Obsessed” and “Friends Go,” have been streamed over a million times, demonstrating that her fans simply cannot get enough. Maggie’s debut EP PARANOIA, which was released at the beginning of the year, has also received much acclaim from Alternative Press, i-D, and Rolling Stone, and recently surpassed 80 million streams. Continuing to build on the alt-rock sound we heard on the EP, Maggie gives us a new single in the form of “She Knows It.”
Describing the inspiration behind the track, Maggie reveals,
“I wrote this song about how I liked a girl who had a boyfriend. She would confide in me about how shitty he was and say and do things that would kind of lead me on, but then tell me she didn’t ‘mean it like that’…so I was like fuck it, I’m gonna write about it.”
The video, which features alternative artists Jasiah, Siiickbrain, and TOOPOOR, captures all of the angst and longing we hear in the track. We see Maggie daydreaming about the girl that she has a crush on and how she cannot deal with the fact that this girl has a boyfriend. Determined to make her feelings known, Maggie sings “She Knows It” at the end of the video, hoping to make a breakthrough. Does this bold move pay off? Find out below.
You can listen to “She Knows It” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
