Last month, a weekend-long music festival took over the streets of downtown Boise, Idaho, bringing in folks from all over the country. From drag shows to Japanese Breakfast to highlighting smaller acts like Spoon Benders and Girl Friday, here are our favorites from the weekend.
Japanese Breakfast headlined an incredible show at Treefort. It was a special show as front woman, Michelle Zauner, gave credit to the act before her, Built to Spill, for being the reason she learned guitar. The crowd also gave extra applause to the fact she is a Pacific Northwest native. The band really brought their acclaimed album, Jubilee, to life.
Andy Shauf performed the same day as his latest album, Wilds. He introduced the crowd to many new classics as well as playing the older, beloved ones.
Luna Li, who was on tour with Japanese Breakfast, took over the Main Stage earlier that day before Michelle. With her butterfly guitar she bought from a dad on Facebook Marketplace, to her angelic dance moves, she made her whole set feel like cloud nine.
Haley Heynderickx made way from Portland, Oregon to serenade the crowd with her soft rock folk tunes.
The Shivas took over the main stage at Treefort on the opening night of the four-day long festival.
Another gem from Portland, Oregon, Y La Bamba hypnotized the crowd with her dreamy melodies inspired by her Mexican culture.
Prism Bitch brought an immense amount of energy to the stage and left everyone feeling the love (literally, they made everyone chant “love”).
Habibi is a all femme rock band that absolutely rocked out, even after just hopping off their plane. They headlined the Neurolux the eve of the festival’s last day.
Girl Friday is a two-piece shoegaze rock band made of college friends from Los Angeles. If they weren’t one of your favorites before their set, they definitely became one of them after.
Meatbodies’ music sounds just like what you’d imagine from them. The crowd moshed so hard, three security guards had to use their weight to upkeep the barricades.
Spoon Benders are another Portland group, who left the crowd in applause for five minutes after they ended. There’s no doubt they can absolutely shred and rock awesome eye makeup while doing so.
These queens opened up the weekend’s Dragfort at a gay club in Boise called The Balcony. The crowd was even so lucky to have witnessed a performance by the RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 runner-up, Kandy Muse.
Treefort didn’t hesitate to announce their next festival quickly after this one ended. If you find yourself planning a trip to Boise, Idaho, you won’t regret booking it for March 23rd-27th of 2022.
