Julian Lamadrid reflects on journey to adulthood on “Teenager”

Date:

When Julian Lamadrid wasn’t busy studying film at NYU, he was crafting sparkling indie pop tunes.  His songs led to a record deal with Arista Records in 2019, which is also when he released his debut album, Mala Noche.  As his music resonated with highly-acclaimed publications such as Wonderland and CLASH, Julian found himself eager to work on more music that would lay the foundation for his career as a pop artist.  Over the course of this year, Julian introduced fans to what he had been up to with the release of “15 Minutes,” “Saturday,” and “One More Trip.”  These singles, along with his latest release “Teenager,” will be featured on Julian’s upcoming sophomore album, Rebels of the Neon God, which is due later this fall.

On “Teenager,” Julian launches into a story that would make for any compelling coming-of-age film.  The glistening indie pop ballad focuses on the in-between period we go through on our journey from childhood to adulthood, touching on specific moments and emotions that define us.  As Julian reflects on his past, he croons, “I’m still that teenager you stabbed in the back / You’re just some stranger that’d treat me like that,” hoping to find closure.  You can check it out below.

Julian further explains,

“There are moments in life that signify turning points and pivotal changes that can alter the view of oneself, the world, or even the person you thought you loved.  ‘Teenager’ is the reflections of being blindsided by a reality that is veiled by innocent eyes. Adolescence brings heartbreak, growing brings pain, but by riding the wave, you are able to adjust.”

You can listen to “Teenager” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
