DBMK try to keep up with the world around them on “Tough”

Date:

When the going gets “tough,” DBMK get going.  The past five years have been an interesting ride for the alt-pop duo, as they have encountered a few obstacles on their rise to become one of the biggest acts of today.  After overcoming lineup changes and various challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, DBMK found a way to reach out to their dedicated KULT fanbase and release some of their most impressive work to date – their Jump in the Dark EP, which was independently released by the guys last year, pulled in over 2.5 million streams just from Spotify alone!  Always striving to outdo themselves, DBMK are giving us their first new release since the EP, which has a little something for everyone.

With “Tough,” DBMK mix their experimental electric sound with lively percussion and electric guitar, resulting in a fresh pop-meets-rock tune.  As energetic as everything feels, though, we get a more defeated vibe from the lyrics.  Lead vocalist Kyle Knudsen gets into how life seems to be passing him by, his day job preventing him from doing what he wants and being with the people he cares about.  It all comes out in the stimulating chorus, where he sings, “I don’t feel so tough / Holding me tight in a head-lock / So messed up.”  You can check it out below.

The track speaks to anyone who has ever felt left behind or out-of-sync with what is going on around them.  DBMK reveal,

“‘Tough’ is a song about feeling utterly stuck in the place you’re at in life and being constantly overlooked by a world that seems to be moving faster and faster around youThis place that you’re stuck in could be school, a job, a relationship, or a state of [mind].  Do you have the confidence to get up and change your circumstances?”

You can listen to “Tough” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
