Three years ago, singer-songwriter Zoe Zobrist introduced fans to her radiant sound with the release of her first single, “Hail Mary.” Since then, she has performed at notable venues, been featured in renowned magazines, and even appeared in the videos that ran during John Mellencamp’s live shows on his ‘John Mellencamp Show’ tour in 2019. Zoe has certainly had quite an adventure so far, but is now getting ready to embark on one of the most incredible journeys of all: motherhood. For the past nine months, Zoe has kept everyone up-to-date on her pregnancy, posting photos on Instagram, answering questions on YouTube, and pouring all of the love she feels for her baby in her latest single, “Oh Baby.” We caught up with Zoe to find out more about the new track, her thoughts on motherhood, and how she plans on incorporating her music career into this new chapter of her life.

Melodic Mag: This past year has been a little different for you, as you are expecting your first baby! What has your journey to motherhood been like so far?
Zoe Zobrist: It sure has! It was filled with a lot of change, of course, but it also gave me the opportunity to step back and take some time to reflect and grow, which I’m really grateful for.
MM: What are some things you have learned about yourself during this time?
ZZ: I’ve definitely proved to myself that I’m stronger than I realized! When you strip away any vices and really take the time to assess what is and isn’t working for you in life, it provides a lot of healing.
MM: Your new single “Oh Baby” is such a beautiful love letter to your future son. Can you tell us more about how the track came together and what it was like to get those feelings out?
ZZ: Thank you so much! My now husband and I were adjusting to the surprise and also moving around a lot because while he was deployed, his house was damaged in a natural disaster. We moved about five times [in] six months and neither of us felt very grounded. I sat down to write like I usually do when I’m trying to sort through things and ended up writing this song, which made me feel super hopeful and excited for the future. I hope he can listen back to it when he’s older and feel how excited I am to be his mom.
MM: We hear about some of your hopes and dreams for your baby on the track – what are you most looking forward to teaching him?
ZZ: Something I’m really looking forward to teaching him is how to navigate emotions. I grew up in an environment that was high tension and had a lot going on. Being able to provide a positive environment for my family is so important and exciting for me!

MM: Have you played any of your music for him/Do you think he’s a fan?
ZZ: I actually played an acoustic show at 9.5 months pregnant, so he hears a lot of it! [Laughs] He actually kicks where the guitar is sometimes when I play.
MM: As you start this new life chapter, how do you think you’ll be able to balance motherhood and your music career?
ZZ: I think so far it’s been really cool how that and my relationship have influenced my writing. I hope to set an example for my child that you can do anything you set your mind to, and how important it is to follow your dreams and passions.

MM: Do you have any more releases coming out this year or in the near future?
ZZ: I’m finishing up a handful of songs at the moment, so yes, lots more to come! 🙂
MM: Is there something that you haven’t been able to do these past nine months that you are most looking forward to doing after giving birth?
ZZ: Yes! I am really excited for some sushi and a margarita. [Laughs] I’m also looking forward to finishing getting my yoga teacher certification. I worked on it for a lot of my pregnancy, but hit a point where the amount of practicing I needed to do wasn’t comfortable anymore.
MM: Thank you so much for your time, and all the best for you and your family during this exciting time! Do you have any final thoughts or comments?
ZZ: Thank you so much for having me!! I enjoyed chatting with you!
