half•alive starts new era in San Diego, CA

Date:

half•alive kicked off their return to the stage with a headlining show at SOMA in San Diego, CA. The concert marked their first show since 2019 and the first stop of a run that will culminate in a show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA on September 16, 2021.

slenderbodies warmed up the crowd with some groovy indie-pop songs, including tracks from their latest ep are we?. Though usually based out of Los Angeles, CA, singer Max Vehuni shared that he currently calls San Diego home. They gave a smooth performance full of bouncy, light music that kept the crowd moving.

half•alive hit the stage with the theatrics in full swing. Illuminated by flashlights shining from side-stage, frontman Josh Taylor broke through the crowd’s building anticipation with the intensity from their track “Tip Toes.” If you’ve caught half•alive in concert before or have seen any of their performances online, you’d know that dance has become quite an integral part of how they deliver their music to the world. With help from the creative duo that comprises JA Collective, every song seemed to bring something new — choreographed dance interludes, spray-painting, shadow dancing. The band didn’t just take the stage to play their music, they were there to share a story, to form a human connection long overdue. From start to finish, the show was an intentional expression of the minds behind half•alive.

“Every moment. Every song. Every breath. I hope that during this time, we can take that moment of gratitude just to be together. Give the gift of presentness. And that could be our comfort.”

Josh Taylor of half•alive

Whenever Josh addressed the audience, the sincerity in his words was apparent. The band appreciated the crowd for being there, and the crowd reciprocated that love by happily singing along to every song. Fans were in for a special treat as half•alive debuted a punchy new song named “Make of It” ahead of its official release, which is slated for September 16, 2021. The night went on and with no other choreography or production aspects left to fulfill, Josh relaxed and soaked in the final song by transporting everyone to the warm, carefree world of “Summerland,” where we all wished we could’ve stayed and danced forever.

Missed out? half•alive will also be joining twenty one pilots as they head across North America on the TAKEØVER TOUR. Tickets available at halfalive.co.
