Japanese Breakfast made a stop in Boston for two sold out nights at the Royale with Luna Li in support of their Jubilee album. Michelle Zauner is no stranger to doing multiple night shows in the same city, most notably doing a five night stand in her home town of Philly. But now it was time for the band to grace Boston for two sold out nights. The tour was continuing after a bit of time off, and fans were eager to see Japanese Breakfast again. Night one was an amazing night, both acts put on stellar shows. For many fans this was their first show back since the pandemic, even for Luna Li who was excited to have the opportunity to get to open up for Japanese Breakfast.
The venue filled in pretty fast, with Covid 19 vaccination checks at the door, it was a safe and electric atmosphere. Luna Li opened the night up and dazzled the crowd with hit after hit. Truly a great opener to get the crowd up and dancing. Japanese Breakfast finally graced the stage and it was an amazing moment. The crowd cheered and cheered, the energy was crazy. They opened up with “Paprika” featuring Michelle hitting a giant gong, which was so cool to see. “Be Sweet” was next and you could tell that is a crowd favorite, nearly everyone was off their feet. Japanese Breakfast played all the classics like “Boyish”, “Road Head”, and “Everybody Wants To Love You”, as well as songs from Jubilee like “Slide Tackle” “Savage Good Boy”, and “Posing In Bondage”. For most fans this was the first time hearing songs from Jubilee live, so it was super exciting. Japanese Breakfast are known for doing covers on tour, this time around they did a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Here You Come Again” to the crowds surprise, it was great.
Overall it was a fantastic night one filled with energy and smiles. You could see everyone was having the time of their lives at the show and it was amazing to see again. Japanese Breakfast always knows how to put on a show, especially in Boston, they never disappoint. Make sure to check out Japanese Breakfast on the rest of the tour that goes into next year, you surely don’t want to miss this one!
