Melodic Mag:  Congratulations on your new single “Busy Body.”  Can you tell us how the idea for the track came about and what it was like to create it?
Cassie Marin:  It came to life as a freestyle.  As I sang, the song clarified its meaning to me.  The rest of the creation was all about leaning into the theme and seeing what else I could dig out of the place that opened up in my mind.

MM:  I read that you started producing music in 2013 and that even though it was challenging at first, it has been very rewarding.  Do you have any advice for others out there who are interested in producing but aren’t sure how to start?
CM:  Be patient with yourself, trust the process, and have fun!

MM:  How many instruments can you play?
CM:  I play piano, guitar, bass, drums and ukulele.

MM:  Your music has such a cool edge to it, in that it can be soft but also energetic.  Are there any artists in particular who inspire your sound?
CM:  It’s a mystery to me, too!  My high school iPod probably holds the answer…

MM:  The lyrics of your songs have a way of being specific, yet universal.  When you write, do you write for yourself or for an audience?
CM:  My writing is usually somewhat personal, but I also usually never know who it’s truly for until long after it’s released.  Those two things are not mutually exclusive to me.

MM:  You also have a book of poems that came out in 2018.  Is it different to write a poem than it is to write a song?
CM:  I think they’re very similar!  Many of my poems have later turned into songs.

MM:  What can you tell us about your upcoming album, which is due to come out later this year?
CM:  I can tell you that it’s coming, and I’ve never been more excited about something in my whole life!!!

MM:  If someone was just discovering you and your music, which three songs would you recommend they check out?
CM:  Depends on the person for sure… but maybe a good balance would be “Light,” “Busy Body,” and “Everything You Could Want.”

MM:  You have such a creative eye with fashion, as well as with music.  If there was one style trend you would like to see take off, what would it be?
CM:  Liberty spikes for everyone!

MM:  Final thoughts or comments?
CM:  Stream “Busy Body” 🙂
