Pink Elefants put a dark twist on an old fairytale with “Sinderella”

Date:

Last time we checked in with our guys from Pink Elefants, they were madly in love, acting as foolish as they could to make the person they love happy.  But now, things have taken a dark turn.  With their new single, “Sinderella,” Pink Elefants still want to make someone they love happy, even if that happiness is beyond their control.  There are some fairytales that require more than a wave of Fairy Godmother’s wand or a kiss from Prince Charming to make things right.

On “Sinderella,” Pink Elefants focus on the importance of self-care, sharing that the song “is about persevering through the obstacles that others put in front of you.”  Between mellow hip-hop beats and emo pop melodies, Pink Elefants tell the tale of a girl who has lost her worth.  The duo sing, “Please don’t give up Sinderella / Life should be so much better than this / You’re starving / For more than / A simple kiss from your Prince Charming,” reminding her that she can overcome the things that are bringing her down.  It is a common message, but one that tends to slip away every now and then.

The music video is very different from any Cinderella movie you have ever seen.  Pink Elefants have gone in a more monster movie type of direction, creating a storyline that speaks to the deeper parts of the track.  As is typical of your average scary movie, everything starts out calm and ordinary, until we notice that things are not quite right.  You can check it out below.

You can listen to “Sinderella” on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
