Heartbreak, but make it fashion.
What if someone completely ripped your heart out of your chest and left you for dead? What if that someone did it instantly, without warning? Would you feel better about it if it was someone you knew? What about if they used a trendy accessory, like a Gucci knife?
However you dice it, heartbreak is heartbreak – it does not come lightly. For her new single, “Gucci Knife,” Carlie Hanson teams up with indie pop artist, MASN, to tackle the aftermath of such a devastating act. In her crisp alt pop style, Carlie sings, “She cut me right out of her life / She changed her mind like overnight / She took my heart out with a Gucci knife,” and processes all of the wounds that come with an unexpected break up. Losing someone you deeply cared about is not easy, but Carlie and MASN leave us with a sense that they will be alright; they can sing about their losses until their hearts are healed.
The video for “Gucci Knife” makes the pain more relatable, as it clues us in on the events that lead to the break up. We see the detachment, the arguing, and the loneliness that plagued the relationship, ultimately leaving Carlie and MASN to sing about their sorrow in the rain and in rooms with aesthetically pleasing lights.
