Kat Cunning is Done Playing Games on “Confident”

Date:

By now, we all should know that Kat Cunning is tenacious, let alone amazing…  With fires blazing in the acting, singing, and dancing departments, you need that kind of tenacity to break through.  You also need confidence.

For their first single of 2021, Kat gives us the sleek and frosty, “Confident.”  What makes this track so icy?  For one, the lyrics.  Kat is calling out someone who is playing games, who takes but does not give, and that does not sit right with them.  Kat sings, “I made you my pride” and “You said that you would wear my name,” but this person is always MIA.  So, instead of asking for apologies or an explanation, Kat plays it cool and asks if this person is confident in their moves – a bold and effective move, for sure.

The most dangerous thing about this track, though, is its unassuming nature.  Lyrically, Kat is giving us a strong sense that something is wrong, but their voice is calm and collected.  Musically, the beat stays steady and fresh, never wavering in energy or grit.  It is too easy to get lost in the track’s sound, and forget that there is someone out there who should feel a little scared or guilty for what they have done to Kat – but we will not let that stop us from playing this on repeat!

For the music video, Kat steps into the role of edgy dance warrior.  There are captivating hair flips, synchronized routines with contemporary dancers, and…just a little bit of water and fog.  This is Kat like you have never seen them, but I have a feeling this will not be the last dance video we get from the triple threat.  I also have a feeling that fans will have the choreography down by the end of the weekend.  You can check it out below.

You can listen to “Confident” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
