Powerhouse alt pop rapper Ashnikko is back with a huge release in her highly anticipated DEMIDEVIL mixtape. It has definitely lived up to its hype and is one of Ashnikko’s stellar works to date. This mixtape follows her 2019 Hi it’s me EP which saw critical acclaim from NPR, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and Nylon and featured her smash hit “STUPID”. The release of DEMIDEVIL now just proves just how versatile of an artist she really is, but we already knew that.
The mixtape features 10 unique songs that really take it to a new level. Each song has its own theme. Throughout the album you can see her flaunt her own style on each song. Each song spans between different genres and themes like empowerment , vengeance , and Ashnikko’s classic humor. Ashnikko doesn’t do it alone on this mixtape though as she called on other fierce women in music like Kelis on “Deal With It”, Princess Nokia on “Slumber Party”, and Grimes on “Cry”. Ashnikko even has a unique twist on Avril Lavigne’s “Sk8er Boi” on “L8r Boi”, and a musical style track in “Clitoris! The Musical”.
About the record, Ashinnko proudly states, “The fruit of my loins, the apple of my eye, the product of my blood, sweat, snot, and tears, my mixtape DEMIDEVIL!!!!! I worked so hard on this music I don’t know how to even deal with it being released into the wild. Might have to hibernate for a week or two while everyone listens to it.”
DEMIDEVIL sees Ashnikko at her best and she is quickly taking over the world. This new release proves that she is a powerhouse musician and is not to be messed with. This mixtape will sure be on repeat for the year and is a definite contender for record of the year, even this early on. If you want to feel empowered and badass, then this is definitely the album to have on blast in your room or on night drives.
