The Drives Open Up On New Song ‘OCD’

Date:

Since 2017 The Drives have been releasing bedroom recordings and making a name for themselves. The Drives consist of Andrew Levin, Casey Chen, and Geo Botelho. They began playing shows in Southern California and since developing a fanbase. Their single “Keep Warm” was featured on Spotify Playlist Fresh Finds, KCRW, and reached #3 on Hype Machine Popular Charts. If you’ve seen a Pizza Hut commercial chances are you’ve heard their song “Tell Me” in the background. The boys are currently recording and producing all their music from their home in Highland Park Los Angeles.

The trio has already released stellar music and they are back with their new single “OCD” which is based on lead singer Andrew Levin’s own experience struggling with OCD and being afraid to open up about it during his early years. “I have struggled with pretty severe OCD almost all of my life and surprisingly have not written much about it. This is one of the first songs where I address OCD and my own mental health. Specifically, I’m talking about my reluctance to speak about my mental struggles to anyone, including psychologists and loved ones in my early 20s. I always knew something was ‘up’ with my head and knew that I would eventually have to address what it is that was going on. However, I was pretty terrified to tell people around me what was going on in my mind, so I resisted talking about it to anyone. That’s really what this song is about. It’s about me hating the idea of letting someone help me with my mental health. Of course, when I actually let my family, friends, and psychologists help me, it was the best decision I ever made and has absolutely changed my life for the better.” Levin Speaks on the track.

The track takes off with thudding riffs that fluidly morph into gossamer waves of swooshing percussions, soaking you with fuzzed-out density. It’s a banger of a track and one of the bands best work to date. Be sure to check The Drives and support them! We can’t wait to see what else they have in store!
